BOTOX®

textline-01

Botox® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smooths deep persistent lines. Botox® is a purified protein. When injected in very low doses into overactive muscles that cause lines to form, Botox® Cosmetic blocks the transmission of impulses that trigger hyperactive muscle contractions. Botox® has been used for cosmetic purposes for over 10 years and is the only form of this product currently approved for cosmetic use in North America.

WHY IT WORKS

Botox® blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. When the muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles may slowly improve and soften over weeks to months.  Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox.

Besides smoothing out lines of the face, Botox® is now being used in more artistic ways, to lift the brow and shape eyebrows, widen the eyes to produce a more rounded look and to shape the jaw and sides of the face.

"This is a note to let you know how pleased I am with my Micro-fractional laser treatment given by Dr. Biro. I found it to be nearly painless during the treatment of about one hour or so and of course no pain at all with the healing process."

I've been seeing Dr. Andy for botox and facial treatments since 2011. As a person, he is very considerate and caring; capable of interesting, lively banter - a nice to know individual. As a professional, he is quite disciplined and knowledgeable. His clinical approach is cautious and discerning - using the most appropriate treatment of the many options and products offered by his practise. He does good work and I trust him. I do not look anything like a 60+ woman - I look 40-ish.... which is quite empowering.

FAQ’S ABOUT BOTOX®

Am I a good candidate?

The best candidates for the procedure are those between ages of 25 and 65. In many cases, wrinkles in people over 65 do not change when relaxing the face. Other procedures would work better for these patients. Each person is different however, and a technician can help you learn which treatments are best for you.

How is Botox® Cosmetic administered?

A very small amount of Botox® Cosmetic is injected into the target areas using a very small needle. Because the needle is fine, only a small amount of the liquid is injected and the associated discomfort is minimal. No anaesthetic is necessary and you can get back to your regular activities right after treatment.

How many treatments are recommended?

One treatment may provide you with a more youthful and relaxed appearance. It is recommended that three consecutive Botox treatments are completed in order to show some possible improvement. Regular touch-ups every three to four months are recommended.

Are there any side effects?

Although extremely rare, a patient may experience localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising. This is why it is extremely important that a board-certified physician completes the treatment to ensure proper application.

Is there any downtime?

No. Most people return to work or normally activities immediately following treatment. It is recommended however, that you avoid exercise, heavy lifting and massaging the injected area for one day.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a proper treatment with Botox® Cosmetic most likely will not radically change your facial appearance. The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows may be simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

What's the difference between Botox® and Cosmetic Fillers such as Juvéderm® and Radiesse®‏?

Botox® targets and relaxes your facial muscles to keep them from creating wrinkles. Fillers smooth and fill in existing wrinkles, restoring skin fullness and volume. Consider Botox® as both a corrective and preventive measure against future facial lines and Filler as a way to deal with existing lines.
