The Cynosure/Palomar® IconTM is used to treat sun-damaged and aging skin. Specially filtered bands of light target the pigmented lesions. After treatment, the pigmented lesions may begin to darken and slough off, possibly clearing the lesion within two weeks.

Laser pigmented lesion removal requires exact science, individual attention, experience, and a trained, caring, professional staff.  At Longevity Medical Aesthetics we strive to give you the results you want.

"This is a note to let you know how pleased I am with my Micro-fractional laser treatment given by Dr. Biro. I found it to be nearly painless during the treatment of about one hour or so and of course no pain at all with the healing process."

I've been seeing Dr. Andy for botox and facial treatments since 2011. As a person, he is very considerate and caring; capable of interesting, lively banter - a nice to know individual. As a professional, he is quite disciplined and knowledgeable. His clinical approach is cautious and discerning - using the most appropriate treatment of the many options and products offered by his practise. He does good work and I trust him. I do not look anything like a 60+ woman - I look 40-ish.... which is quite empowering.

What causes pigmented lesions?

Pigmented lesions, birthmarks, brown spots, and age spots are created from an excessive concentration of melanin in the skin. Melanin is what gives our skin its colour. Everyone has a different amount of melanin. High melanin concentrations can be caused by various factors. Some types are present at birth, but most occur with age or most commonly, from overexposure to the sun’s damaging rays. Your technician will evaluate your skin and inform you of the specific type of skin lesion (in consultation with Dr. Andy if necessary).

Which pigmented lesions can be treated with laser?

The most commonly treated conditions are solar lentigines (also known as age spots, liver spots or sun spots), café au lait birthmarks, and freckles. These benign pigmented lesions are caused by excess pigment in the skin, usually from sunlight exposure and congenital factors. Age spots may appear as enlarged light freckles on the face and hands. Café au lait birthmarks may appear as light brown markings anywhere on the body and can be quite large.

Are the results ?

Many pigmented lesions, if completely removed, will not return. At times, however, sun exposure may cause café au lait spots to return. We all continue to develop more age spots and freckles with time, and the appearance of these new lesions should not be confused with recurrence of originally treated spots.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments depends on the lesion being treated. Solar lentigines may require one to three treatments whereas café au lait spots may take up to 12 treatments. Our recommended treatment interval is about one month.

Is the procedure painful?

Laser skin rejuvenation treatment can be performed on any facial area – around the eyes, mouth, cheeks, chin ‐ with minimal discomfort. A topical anesthetic cream can be used on extra sensitive areas, but no injections are needed.

Who are the best candidates for this treatment?

Fair skinned individuals who have wrinkles and fine lines, red and flushed faces, fine blood vessels, sun‐damaged skin and hyper-pigmentation are ideal candidates.

How long do treatments take?

The procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Makeup may be applied right away, so many patients come for treatment during lunch or work breaks.

Are there any risks with skin rejuvenation?

Advanced light systems have been used safely for millions of treatments worldwide. They treat only the targeted areas, leaving surrounding tissues intact. In rare instances, bruising, blistering and scarring can occur but the vast majority of our patients experience little or no adverse reaction.  *Individual results may vary.
