BOTOX®
Botox® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical procedure that may smooth the appearance of deep persistent lines. Botox® is a purified protein. When injected in very low doses into overactive muscles that cause lines to form, Botox® Cosmetic is intended to block the transmission of impulses that trigger hyperactive muscle contractions. Botox® has been used for cosmetic purposes for over 10 years and is the only form of this product currently approved for cosmetic use in North America.

WHY IT WORKS
Botox® is intended to block signals from the nerves to the muscles which may cause the wrinkles to relax and soften. When the muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles may slowly improve and soften over weeks to months. Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox.
Besides being used on the face, Botox® is now being used in more artistic ways: intending to lift the look of the brow and shape of the eyebrows, widen the appearance of the eyes to produce a more rounded appearance and to improve the look of the shape of the jaw and sides of the face.

FAQ’S ABOUT BOTOX®
Am I a good candidate?
The best candidates for the procedure are those between ages of 25 and 65. In many cases, wrinkles in people over 65 do not change when relaxing the face. Other procedures would work better for these patients. Each person is different however, and a technician can help you learn which treatments are best for you.
How is Botox® Cosmetic administered?
A very small amount of Botox® Cosmetic is injected into the target areas using a very small needle. Because the needle is fine, only a small amount of the liquid is injected and the associated discomfort is minimal. No anaesthetic is necessary and you can get back to your regular activities right after treatment.
How many treatments are recommended?
One treatment may provide you with a more youthful and relaxed appearance. It is recommended that three consecutive Botox treatments are completed in order to show some possible improvement. Regular touch-ups every three to four months are recommended.
Are there any side effects?
Although extremely rare, a patient may experience localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising. This is why it is extremely important that a board-certified physician completes the treatment to ensure proper application.
Is there any downtime?
No. Most people return to work or normally activities immediately following treatment. It is recommended however, that you avoid exercise, heavy lifting and massaging the injected area for one day.
Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?
Although the results are visible, a proper treatment with Botox® Cosmetic most likely will not radically change your facial appearance. The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows may be simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
What's the difference between Botox® and Cosmetic Fillers such as Juvéderm® and Radiesse®?
Botox® is intended to target and relax your facial muscles to keep them from creating the appearance of wrinkles. Fillers smooth and fill in the look of existing wrinkles to restore the appearance of skin fullness and volume.
